Now this is my kind of day out, in the water at North Devon, messing about on a surf board. So fair enough these are not epic surf photos you would need to look here for true tube inspiration. But for me it’s more about getting out and doing something I enjoy.
It was a beautiful day last week when we took off for the first surf of the year, perfect little waves with an off shore breeze. I look watch Magic Seaweed which gives great surf and weather reports for locations all over the world. I recent upgraded my wetsuit too as I am a massive wimp when it comes to being cold, this is what I got and it is fantastically warm plus I practically stay dry too – snug fit!. The water temp last week was 8 degrees but outside it was 4 degrees but no wind. I was toastie the whole time I was out, even on the walk back to the car which is when I used to get cold.
Learning to surf is an amazing experience the thrill of catching a wave is the most scream worthy delight that I know of. I learnt in the warm waters of Austrialia and South west France, but here in North Devon at Croyde these guys are really good teachers if you want to learn to surf . Also if you are girl or looking for hen party ideas and you want to learn to surf without a competitive male in sight these are a lovely team of people that teach girls to surf.
Top Five Surf Spots in UK
My top five places to surf in the UK are :
Gwithian my most favourite beach and surf spot
Croyde – The best place as long it is not the height of summer as it gets packed to the max
Sennen – always beautiful no matter what the weather
Constentine - always reliable and dogs are allowed on the beach too
Putsborough – beautiful and always empty but it only works for surfing some days.
